Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who is TDIC?
A: The Dentists Insurance Company (TDIC) is a property/casualty insurance company that focuses exclusively on supporting the dental profession by offering a comprehensive suite of professional and business liability, commercial property, workers’ compensation, employment practices liability and cyber liability products. Founded by a bold group of California Dental Association (CDA) members in 1980, TDIC is wholly owned by CDA and protects a large community of dentists. With the merger, TDIC extended its exceptional legacy, brand values, financial strength and stability to more than 5,000 additional policyholders in five additional states and now protects more than 24,000 total policyholders in 15 states.

Q: What does “dentist-centric” mean?
A: “Dentist-centric” means that TDIC is solely focused on you. TDIC promises to protect only dentists, to be there when you need them, and strive to protect you better than any other insurance company. Rely on a dentist-led board, products approved by your peers and unparalleled expertise. Every product and risk management resource is designed with the unique needs of dentists in mind.

Q: How is TDIC different than other insurers or risk retention groups?
A: TDIC has a 38-year heritage of dentist-centric protection. In addition to earning the endorsement of many state dental associations, TDIC has received an A (Excellent) rating by A.M. Best for 24 consecutive years. (A.M. Best Company rating effective March 2018. For the latest rating, access ambest.com.)

Q: Why did TDIC acquire NORDIC?

A: TDIC and NORDIC shared a commitment to a dentist-centric philosophy and to protecting the future of the dental professional liability industry. In 2017, TDIC purchased three companies: NORDIC, Dentists Benefits Insurance Company (DBIC) and Dentists Benefits Corporation (DBC) from Moda, Inc. — with a mission to return a singular focus on dentistry to NORDIC policyholders.

Q: When did the merger take effect?
A: The merger was complete at the end of 2018 and took effect on Jan. 1, 2019, after regulatory approval.

Q. What should I expect to change as a result of the merger?
A: In the coming months you will see the name The Dentists Insurance Company, or the abbreviation TDIC, take the place of the name NORDIC on policyholder materials. The most visible change will be the name and logo from NORDIC to TDIC. You’ll also notice that the website has a fresh new look, but you will find the same product, claims and contact information you need.

Q: Why is NORDIC changing its name?
A: NORDIC became part of The Dentists Insurance Company family when TDIC acquired it in 2017. As part of the acquisition, the name changed on January 1, 2019 when TDIC became your new underwriting company. This one name, The Dentists Insurance Company, represents our shared strength, community of policyholders and continued focus only to protect dentists.

Q: Where can I find TDIC rates?
A: TDIC will work to consult with you on the right type and amount of coverage for your practice, ensuring that you get a fair rate and dedicated expertise. Our coverage is designed to address the insurance needs of dentists and considers multiple factors when setting a price for that protection.

Q: Will this merger affect service for my policy or risk management resources?
A: You can expect a smooth transition and will still receive exceptional service and expert claims handling. We will continue to collect premiums, pay claims and provide personalized policyholder support.

Q: Where do I send my payments?
A: Payments on your existing premiums should be returned to the address indicated on your billing statement.

Q: Whom do I contact for assistance with my policy?
A: Your regional staff remains the same. If you need assistance or have questions about your policy, please call 800.452.0504.
