This course highlights the importance of incorporating comprehensive evaluations, performing timely follow-up and establishing effective communication between dentists and their teams. Through analysis of TDIC cases, this course shares how to establish consistent protocols for screenings and integrate patient education into daily practice. The course also explores strategies to address screening misconceptions, biases or gaps in awareness, as well as how to communicate evidence supporting screening necessity. This course qualifies for a 5% TDIC Professional Liability premium discount for TDIC policyholders.*

Speakers:

John Sillis, Esq.

Mr. Sillis is a member of the Sacramento based firm Zaro & Sillis. He attended Holy Family College in Philadelphia, earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1977. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania where he earned a master’s degree in nursing with a minor degree in Nursing Administration through the Wharton School of Business in 1978.

He came to California in 1980 in the U. S. Air Force, stationed at Travis Air Force Base until 1986. He graduated from the University of the Pacific, Mc George School of Law in 1988. He has practiced exclusively in the area of medical/dental malpractice defense.

Carol J. McCutcheon, DDS

Dr. McCutcheon earned her degree in 1983 from the University of Washington School of Dentistry.  She has served as the President of Santa Clara County Dental Society and represented them as a trustee at the California Dental Association.  She also served as chair of the Leadership Development Committee at CDA.  Dr. McCutcheon served for 6 years on the TDIC Board and was chair of the Claims and Risk Management Committee for 3 years.  She has practiced general dentistry for over 36 years in Campbell, CA. - both as the owner and as an associate of the practice she built.
