TDIC covers policyholders who provide permitted COVID-19 vaccinations

Through Professional Liability insurance that covers the evolving scope of practice, TDIC protects dentists in the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine, permitting that they meet dental board or government agency requirements to do so.

With the COVID-19 vaccine supply increasing and President Joe Biden’s announcement that all adults in the U.S. would be eligible for vaccination by May 1, the administration authorized dentists and other providers nationwide to join vaccination efforts.

In keeping with The Dentists Insurance Company’s mission to support dentists in their roles as healthcare heroes, TDIC’s Professional & Dental Business Liability insurance was built to cover the evolving scope of practice. From the company’s founding in 1980, TDIC’s coverage was written with the foresight and dentist-centric focus to protect dentists in situations like those faced today.

Dentists are already skilled at administering injections, making them well-poised to support the acceleration of COVID-19 vaccination administration. TDIC's Professional Liability insurance covers policyholders who perform COVID-19 vaccinations, as long as their state dental board permits dentists to administer the vaccination and the policyholder has the training or certification the dental board or other government agency requires to do so.

TDIC has compiled additional COVID-19 vaccine administration considerations to dentists guide dentists. In addition, the American Dental Association has created an interactive map to keep dentists informed of the latest vaccine availability updates and administration by state. Check with your state dental board for more information about approval to administer the vaccination, as well as what training or certification may be required before doing so.
